Up And Over Garage Doors

Up and over garage doors are essentially available with two types of mechanism, canopy gear, also known as trackless canopy and retractable gear also known as tracked or slideaway.  If you are looking to automate your garage door either straightaway or in the future, retractable mechanism is the better option.

All up and over garage doors are generally available in a pre-hung steel frame, which are designed to be fitted directly to brickwork, either between piers or behind reveals.

Garage doors are also available unframed and ready to fit to either existing or new timber frames.

Locking systems on garage doors are usually two or three point, dependent on the manufacturer, with 4 point upgrades as an option.  All modern locking is much more secure than it used to be.

Canopy Garage Doors Lifting Mechanism

Canopy up and over garage doors have the simplest and most common type of garage door lifting gear.  It provides the maximum drive through width when open and is the easiest to install.  As the name implies a trackless canopy garage door forms a canopy roughly equivalent to one third of the garage doors height when fully opened.

Generally only available on garage doors up to 8’0” (2438mm) wide.

This type of mechanism is not generally used if the garage door is to be automated, retractable/tracked gear would be the better option.  Should you be looking to electrically operate an existing canopy garage door, there are a number of options available.

Retractable Garage Doors Lifting Mechanism

If you are looking for an up and over garage door and are thinking about automation a retractable geared garage door is the natural choice.  It provides smooth operation and will stand the test of time.  Unlike canopy gear, it does not rely on cables, thus reducing future maintenance.

Retractable garage doors are fitted with overhead horizontally mounted tracks that the garage door runs on, along with side mounted pivot arms and springs to help support and balance the door.  When fully opened a retractable garage door will almost fully retract.  It is worth noting that this gear does reduce the drive through width slightly, which should be considered if you have a narrow garage.

Up and over garage doors are produced in a number of materials such as steel, UPVC, timber and fibreglass (GRP).  Therefore providing options to suit all budgets, tastes and property styles.

Steel Up and Over Garage Doors

Secure, corrosion resistant garage doors, manufactured from premium grade galvanised steel available in a variety of finishes. 

Primed doors are ideal for those wishing to paint their new door a particular colour.  Plastisol coated steel with low maintenance colour options in white, black or brown. 

Weathergrain, the affordable way of obtaining a door that looks like timber.  Woodgrain laminate finishes are available in golden oak and rosewood.

UPVC Up and Over Garage Doors

Impact resistant white ABS (Acrylonitrate Butadiene Styrene) or in other words strong flexible plastic garage doors which closely match to white UPVC doors and windows.

Timber Up and Over Garage Doors

Comes in a variety of different timbers, including softwood, mahogany, cedarwood, and oak. Generally these garage doors will be supplied base coated with the option of being fully finished.

Fibreglass (GRP) Up and Over Garage Doors

Superbly detailed, low maintenance high gloss white and timbergrain effect GRP garage doors will enhance any property.  The timbergrain garage doors are available in a number of finishes.

Open – For – Infill

Side Hinged Garage Doors

In recent years there has been a revival in demand for traditional side hung garage doors. Ideal if you have obstructions inside your garage or limited headroom or if your garage is used for storage. Opening outwards side hinged garage doors are easy and convenient to use and can be automated using special conversion arms. There are numerous size, style, material and colour options available.

Side hinged garage doors can be supplied pre-hung in their own steel frame or to fit to existing or new timber frames.

Sliding Garage Doors

Also known as slide around or round the corner garage doors. These types of garage doors are available in various materials and styles.
